Looking For Some Herbs

RiddleSoul was forced to slow his quick pace from the blazing hot weather. He had come up among the Oasis in search of some herbs that his brother had forgotten to get last time he was out. The FireSeer finally stopped next to the water, and looked back for FogPaw and HotKit.

FogPaw tried to pace herself, padding quickly along to catch up with RiddleSoul, but trying not to leave HotKit behind. When she had arrived at the Oasis, she asked, "What do the herbs that we're getting look like?"

"Well, the one is a sweet-smelling plant with large, spreading, fern like leaves and small white flowers. Kinda cool looking, actually. It's called Chervil. You look for that, and I'll look for the Chickweed." RiddleSoul meowed, and started sniffing about the water's edge.

[WolfMoon]

Hotkit loped beside Fogpaw. "You mean that herb over there?" he mewed pointing his tail to the sweet-smelling Chervill. Hotkit paded over to it and picked some of the herbs. He was small and fuzzy but none the less cute.

Fogpaw nodded. "Good," she encouraged Hotkit. "We won't pick all of the herbs from one spot, though, or they won't regrow. I'll look to see if there's any more." She smiled while she padded a little ways away, her eyes scanning the area for chervil.

[WolfMoon]

Hotkit beamed with joy. "Ok." Leaving the smaller buds and flowers to grow more. Weaving in and out of the bushes looking for some more herbs. "is this Chickweed?" pointing to bush with red berries. Hotkit didn't know what deathberries looked like and these looked yummy. Dashing over to them he started to pick them with out eating them but still putting them in his mouth.

"HotKit, no!" RiddleSoul shouted, jumping and bowling the small kit over. He slapped the kit in the back of the head, none to gently, forcing him to spit out some of the berries. "I told you before we left not to eat anything! These are deathberries." The FireSeer wasn't panicked. He didn't think HotKit had time to eat any of them yet.

[WolfMoon]

Hotkit's eyes grew huge with terror, " I..I didn't know what they were. Sorry RiddleSoul." the little kit mewed almost wailing. Tears streaming down his face he plopped down and started to shake.

[gosh]

FogPaw moved forward to comfort the kit. "Well, now you know," she meowed, happy that nothing bad had happened. She shuddered inwardly at the thought of what might have happened.

RiddleSoul let out a sigh and plopped right on down next to HotKit. He turned a weak smile to the small tom. "Just don't let it happen again." he meowed wistfully. StarClan forbid the small kit would try something like that again after RiddleSoul all but tackled him.

[WolfMoon]

Hotkit whimpered a reply of yes before popping up and spinning around in circles. All seemed forgiven and forgotten. Slowing down to a halt Hotkit mewed "Can you show me what Chickweed looks like?"

RiddleSoul nodded and heaved himself to his paws. "Yeah. There's some over here." he meowed, padding to a clump over viney plants with small, green leaves on the stems. "This is Chickweed. You'd have to ask MudDog or DestinyWinds what it's used for, though."

FogPaw nodded. "Now, what other herbs do we need?" she asked, a bit timidly. She looked around awkwardly, wondering if this was what it was like to be a medicine cat apprentice.

RiddleSoul shrugged. "I think that was about it. But we could hag out here for a little while, if you want." he stretched. "I'm in no hurry."

[WolfMoon]

Hotkit nodded to Fogpaw. "I having to much fun anyways. Can you show me how to do the hunters croutch?" he mewed turning to RiddleSoul.

FogPaw opened her mouth but realized HotKit had been speaking to RiddleSoul, and so she quickly closed her mouth and simply started to groom herself.

Not hearing an answer from RiddleSoul Hotkit turned to Fogpaw. "Can you show me?" he mewed earnistly.

RiddleSoul hadn't heard HotKit. He was too lost in his memories. It was at this very spot when, oh it seemed like eons ago, his two brothers and himself had been picked up by a patrol. It still made him smile at the cockyness WilyWolf had displayed to NorthFrost. Well, WilyWolf had always been like that. RiddleSoul could remember when DestinyWinds had shown up after that...and MudDog take shelter under her... The gray, wide-eyed tom sighed once. To get those simple days back....where they had nothing overhead or on their shoulders.... But things were much too complicated. He missed WilyWolf a lot...his position as a FireSeer and MudDog's position as medicne cat apprentice had saved them from being outcasted from the Clan, but WilyWolf had been unlucky. He had been banished to BogClan with many other cats. RiddleSoul's eyes traveled absently to the bouncy little form of HotKit. He acted so much like they had at that age. He smiled.

Bouncing around Hotkit released some pint up stress from his parents death. Seeing RiddleSouls tail twitch Hotkit pounced on it and batted at it with his paws.

RiddleSoul grinned and batted his tail around, half-heartedly trying to keep it from HotKit's reach.

Getting into a crouch Hotkit wiggled his rear and lept into the air and pounced on his tail.

"Ouch!" RiddleSoul exclaimed as he felt tiny, sharp little teeth and claws pentrate his tail. He pulled it from HotKit's grasp to examine it more closely, watching a few blood drops fall. RiddleSoul smiled before laying his tail down again. "Your gunna be some fighter, HotKit." the FireSeer commented.

Hotkit looked worriedly at his tail. "Im sawee. I didnt mean to." Hearing RiddleSoul mew that he would be a freat fighter one day made him beam with pride. "you think so?" he asked.

"Yep. Those rogues don't stand a chance." RiddleSoul meowed. He knew HotKit's parents were dead, and thought he could use some praise. He was pretty good with his claws, after all.
