(Btw, I am not finished writing the book, in fact not even finished writing the first chapter, but heres what I got so far)
(Needs Title, after reading tell me if it should be The Beginning of my New Life, or The End and Beginning)
Chapter I: I find a new companion (5 years in the past)
The air was crisp, cold to the touch in the early fall morning. The stars still hung over the clear sky, the aurora borealis shining, both drudgingly holding onto the previous night. I stared speechless into space. I sighed and stretched in my Coleman sleeping bag, the zipper coming undone and my breath being taken right out of me as the cold air touched my warm skin as if punching me in the lungs. I shook my head, as I thought over the past few months, which had passed by so quickly almost like in a blink of an eye. It was last fall; the fall of 2008, when it had all began…
I remember, sitting in my room, watching T.V. as I played World of Warcraft on my laptop, as went every day of my life, excluding school, which I was in 8th grade, and other activities, I rarely often left my room, it was my ‘Cavern’ which my mom often called it, the place I felt the safest by myself, when the first newscast was shown on my regional news station.
After my dad died a few months before from a massive heart, my social life went to the dumps, I began cutting off all friendships I have had, one way or another. It was at first just Matt Gamblemen a friend I had made in the fifth grade, who had been introduced to me by my life-long friend Austin Krivolo during recess at Marla G. Sven Elementary school, but that friendship ended because, we just had taken different paths, I needed a friend who I could trust not to betray my feelings, which Matt had often did by making fun of me behind my back. Then it was Dakota Calino, which was because I had put it in my mind that my friends, who were also Matt’s would have to choose between us, they couldn’t go on just being friends with both of us. Luck have it most chose Matt, for some obvious reasons, which where that I often argued with people to the point of no return because when I said I was right, I got that stuck in my mind and that meant everyone else was wrong. So my friend list dwindled to almost nothing like a piece of Ice at the end of winter.
As September came and I began school, there where news reports playing on all the major news stations like CNN, FOX news, and NBC news, saying that Al Qaeda was working on a new Bio-weapon, which would utterly kill an army of men in one shot, infecting one soldier, then another, and another till everyone was sick and dying. Most thought of this as just whack, and a ploy to draw their intention like George W. Bush’s cry a few years earlier that there where Nuclear Weapons stored in Iraq, which was proven to be a lie. But as the weeks passed, more information was revealed, ex-terrorist members where coming forth and supporting these tales, notes were found of the mad scientists who where helping Al Qaeda in their plans to destroy America, the scientists called themselves, the Biological decoders, and in the notes it said they were not helping the Al Qaeda, but further the unraveling of the future they looked forward to. So the USA began looking into a defense against this Biological weapon, which was sure to be used against them soon, but nothing could be thought of to protect the United states, except for a cure to the poison, but the only way a cure could be made is if the poison was gotten in a condensed and pure form, but that was out of the hands of the government. Life went on though; I didn’t pay much intention to these stories, but the 2008 presidential election, which I was fully interested in.
The real problems started in March, somehow the disease had been released from its contain environment and had spread like wild fire through the middle east, before long everyone there had been turn sickened with the virus, but, it did not work like the scientists had planned, instead of killing them, it just slowly but savagely ate there insides, turning their brains to mush and instead of killing them for good, the virus, once it had finished its job, brought the people infected with it, back to life, rebuilding them so they had enhanced power, enhanced ability to run fast, inhuman abilities. Alas, everything wasn’t fine, it left out the brain, leaving its occupants unintelligent, they had only one thing set in the mind, or what was left of it, food, and its food, was the brains of others.
All the countries set in the Middle East, except Iran, where left to crumble under the disease, its governments being overthrown, its wealthiest leaving for safety in foreign lands, the remaining soldiers that were stationed there from the Iraq war, where soon infected, unknowingly they were brought back to the United states, starting the spread of the zombie infection in the western world, soon major cities like Washington D.C, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta City, where destroyed, its electricity, running water all shut off, heck, anyone who did have electricity or running water anywhere in the world where lucky, its monuments ravaged, they were just huge gathering places of zombies.
Everyone in the world looked to Iran, who had seem to be able to keep the disease at bay, none of their citizens getting infected, it wasn’t long till word got out that the Iranians had found the long dormant gene in the human body, the gene, that if matched with another gene of its kind, would turn the human into a vampire, but keep them from losing their humanity from the zombie virus. The secret of the gene had been kept secret in the dungeons of Bran’s Castle, commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, and was found by a Iranian spy who had been order to investigate the site, many where terrified at this discovery but, soon realized it was the only way to keep from catching the zombie virus, which was far worse. Iran, who turned greedy and wanted to keep the gene secret to themselves, grudgingly let other countries have the secrets of how to do awaken the sleeping gene after they were paid 10 billion dollars from all the countries that wanted the antidote, one of the down sides from the vampire antidote was that it was slow to activate, so only small areas in countries like the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Spain and France, got the relief of the antidote quick enough. Soon there where over 3 billion zombies, half of the world’s population, infected by the disease, 1 billion people given the antidote and were turned into vampires, and the other 2 billion humans where left alive, unharmed by both the crazy things.
The world was in utter chaos, demons, once a figment of our imaginations, where now real, new species of unearthly creatures where discovered, all the humans left alive either fled to safe havens like Hawaii, Cuba, Puerto Rico, all Islands far off the coast, untouched by disease or alteration, the ones who chose to stay forgot their old comforting lives and became hunters, hunters of the zombies, demons, unearthly creatures that now rule the planet, and even some of them, hunting vampires, who often drank the blood of the remaining humans.
Rocky Hill, the town I lived in, became a fresh-hold against the zombie invasion, army troops soon controlled every house and or building they could get their hands on, they made base near the river on the east side of town, right near my house. Since I couldn’t go out of my house, since they had issued everyone in the town to stay calm and lock up their houses; though there was always a few people who would refuse and go out anyway, and spend the nights in the basements or attics, the safest places to guard with since the zombies had no idea how to go up or down stairs, that way there where easy to kill, just hit them hard in the head with anything metal or wood as they squirmed all over each other trying to get to the food they saw before their eyes and they would be killed instantly.
The changes that took Rocky Hill by storm actually scared many of us that lived in this once beautiful quiet suburban town. No matter the time, the pitch blackness of night or the gloomy light of day, there was always noise, the nerve rattling tat tat tat of bullets zooming thousands of feet a minute through the air as it tried to find its mark or the unbearable moan of the wind that filled our souls with fear of what might be just outside the reaches of the army section of town. The army worked 24-7, enforcing barracks around the outreaches of the eastern part of town, always building up our defense if the soldiers that were on look out somehow died and couldn’t yell to tell the rest of the regiment that the zombies had broken through. In fact the town looked nothing like it had once, a wonderful landscape of the North East it had once been populated with huge forests that drew crowds of people from all around the world to see the trees blossom into their fall colors now all that was left was a bramble thorn bush that scraped the landscape the only water for miles upon miles was the river, which had turned black and dirty since the zombie infection. A terrible smell floated around town that made anyone who went outside without a gas mask gag and throw up; it was like a mixture of flesh decaying and human waste. The town had long been out of food and water, what food we got was the leftovers of the soldiers which were often gruel and half eaten fire cakes with muddy river water. At one point it was so bad the town started cooking worn materials of clothing and furniture and even then a lot of the town starved and died, more than half of the town dropped dead from starvation. Though there were some hardships but people who were strong enough survived, my family luckily was able to keep going, but then it happened.
Around April 25th people in the town started go missing, the informants, as people started calling the brave and daring citizens that would actually venture out into the day with all the danger as if they where heroes, told everyone of the disappearances. First it was only Bobachas, whose father was one of the best known cops in the town, then it was the Zietam’s and the Gamblemen, It got to a point where huge groups of families would go missing and never heard of again. This really didn’t affect me until my family was taken away.
As usual I was in my room upstairs, while my family was in the basement, when I started hearing footsteps outside, sadly I couldn’t see anything though since when the army had taken control of the town they had boarded the windows like they do in ghost towns and old buildings, but there was still a tiny crack in the boards that showed their feet and that was all. I heard people silently discussing what they should do.
“You, Cerberus, get the axe, these people got the door locked…” said a rough and unloving female voice, a voice that sounded as if it could cut through steel.
“Why do I always have to do the, ummm, what’s the word? Coughed a heavily Scottish accent man who stomped off to get an axe, I could almost hear him mumbling under his breath something about quitting the army and getting away from this nuts.
“The reason you always do the physical, yes physical is probably the word your small brain was trying to compensate and couldn’t, is because you’re so stupid if I let you handle some of the mental work you probably end up blowing someone’s face off and get us all in a load of trouble” hissed a command from who I guessed was the leader of the small group of about three people.
The third person started to laugh. “Good one Fury! I can’t stop laughing!” laughed a small and quiet voice.
Fury growled as she started to tap her foot waiting for Cerberus to get back with the axe, it wasn’t till about half an hour later that he got back and he was without the axe. “What the hell you retarded idiot, I ask you to get an axe and you can’t even do that and plus it doesn’t take an half an hour to get one!” Hissed Fury as she walked off angrily toward Cerberus, then walked off out of view.
Cerberus just screeched as what I began to imagine Fury hitting him with her gun, but I couldn’t be sure. “You can’t blame me! You know, ummm, I went off to get the axe then the, ummm, what’s it called? Well, whoever he is told me to go get some tools and well, he said to work on myself!”
The silent raspy voice started to talk again, and it was just so strange I cringed as he talked “You’re such a liar, you probably forgot about what you were doing and went off to have a beer from the Colonel’s secret stash!”
There were a few moments of silent as Fury came back into sight but Cerberus started up again “Shut up Hecate! And how did you know what I was doing!” said the ill-worded Cerberus who had just given himself away.
“I didn’t, but thanks for telling me, I was just guessing, but now that I know you did raid Colonel’s stash I will be able to go to him and tell him why some of his beer is gone, and maybe in payment he’ll promote me to the class of Specialist!” laughed the hysterical voice that now I knew was Hecate.
“GET TO WORK YOU TWO!” Fumed Fury as she dropped the axe on Cerberus’s foot and he screamed in agony.
There were a few minutes of a silent tension between the three before I heard a hard bang, Bang, BANG! And then there was a large crash as the door of our once beautiful two story white house fell to the ground and the three soldiers started ravaging the place, as they did I hid away inside a box in the attic, to afraid to do anything else.
