In 2008 the news was full of suspicions that the Middle East had nations testing bio weapons, we all figured it wouldn’t affect us, or if it did, we already had a cure. What we didn’t know, would soon end most of our lives, and begin all new ones. In 2012, my life finally began, even if everyone said it ended.
I had graduated high school; Amber was in school of cosmetology, and due to amazing skills with hair, going to graduate early that summer. I had been begging her for months to come with me to Canada that year to visit Ted. I’m not sure Ted and I loved each other, or ever really wanted to get married, but we had too much fun together to leave it alone. The Government had sent out warnings that this was the last year of public schooling because of the Zombie infection. The Iranians had developed a gene that allowed you to live after you died, it was a virus, it slowly killed you, taking about a month, and it rotted your insides as it went, but you never died, you gained a super human speed, and strength, but lost your humanity all together. What we didn’t know was that the Arabs had developed a gene that made you immune to the Zombie Virus, the only down side was, it was the Vampire Gene. It had existed for thousands of years, it was whether or not we figured out what caused it, how to single it out, and how to put it to use. The Arabs did that. They unfortunately would not spread it world wide like the Iranians spread theirs, NO; they very carefully sprayed small parts of Canada, and northern United States. So there were very few Vampires, and a lot of Zombies, and Zombies spread like wild fire, Vampires spread themselves at a slower, but more solid and steady rate.
Amber had consented to go with me, so after she earned her degree we set off to our little apartment in Canada. We had done some research, and signed up for jobs, and gotten an apartment before we even left. We would be there for seven months on the job. Amber was a cosmetologist, and I was a personal Music teacher. Ted owned his own Welding joint. We would be fine and nothing could go wrong, right?
After our first two week of staying at the apartment, Jake moved into the third Bedroom, fantastic! He and Ted met each other, and hated each other instantly, Amber and I had NO CLUE why. Ted lost his apartment, because his landlord didn’t like the hours he kept, so he also moved in with us, he staid in my room. I made him take the bed, I slept on the floor. Except, every night while I was asleep he would move me to the bed, and sleep in my nest on the floor, d**n HIM.
Everything went just fine.
After our first month living together, and buying the apartment block, and moving into the landlord house, Jake told me he loved Amber, and wanted to propose to her. I agreed to help him and made a very nice candle light dinner for the four of us. During the dinner I started a random conversation to keep it from getting awkward.
“So, Ted, how was work today?” I asked, I knew exactly how it was, I was the one who had gone over to pick him up in my nice Denali, and covered the seat in a plastic bag to keep the yucky stuff on him from getting on the seat, and taken a shower with him.
“Fine, I made a lot of progress on that car frame for what’s his butt the millionaire who wants a specially designed car just for him.” He answered through a mouthful of penne in a light sweet mushroom sauce.
“Aww, Ted, eat or talk! Not both!” Amber teased him. “I only like to see my meal BEFORE it goes in!” we all laughed at that, and I knocked over a glass of good Black Muscat.
“Crap.” I laughed and everyone laughed at me.
“Actually I think it looks more like blood.” Amber said laughing. Both Jake and Ted went super quiet, and extremely stiff.
“What’s wrong?” I asked suddenly moving to stand by Ted concern flashing in my eyes. Amber looked at Jake with confusion.
“Umm... Nothing.” Jake said softly returning to eating with a dark glance at Ted who had his mouth in a tight line. I looked at Amber confused as I took my seat, again. She, being the helpful person she was shrugged and returned to eating. I started suspecting something then, I didn’t know what I was suspecting, but I was suspecting something.
“Ummmmm sooooooooo……. Jake, have you ever thought of marrying Amber?” I frantically sought for some conversation in the awkward silence.
“Yeah, I have, I have considered it a lot.” He looked at Amber who blushed furiously; I’d dressed her up in a beautiful black gown. It was a glittery black with silver thread in it to make it shimmer. It was a halter top style with a bright amethyst right below the bust. It was knee length, my favorite of her black dresses. I had done her eye shadow in a purple to match the amethyst, with black eyeliner, lightly, how ever much she complained about it not being heavy enough. A light shiny pink lip gloss and some mascara finished the look. The blonde part of her hair I had swept over so that it had a far to the side part. The back and under dark purple hair was spiked, she looked GLORIOUS if I do say so myself. She had a silver chain necklace with an amethyst heart Jake had given her on, and an amethyst bracelet she had made, on silver wire around her wrist. Her dark tan skin was accentuated by the black and amethyst, her dark reddish tinted brown eyes glowed. The blush just made her look prettier.
Jake stood up; I noticed for the first time that he always moved with a not-so-human type of grace. Amber looked at him worried then her eyes grew huge as he swooped down to one knee in front of her and took her hand.
“Amber Rayne Cooper, I know, that no matter what has happened, what will happen, and how many worlds apart we are… I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” I personally thought Amber’s eyes were going to explode, or maybe she was going to implode. I could have put one of the dinner plates in her eyes now and it would have seemed smallish.
“Wh…Wh…uhhh…. Duh... ummm I-I… uh… maaa!” she finally stuttered out. I leaned over towards her.
“Just say yes.” I whispered, Jake didn’t take his eyes of her, but I knew he’d yell at me later.
“Yes.” She whispered her eyes still huge. I smiled at Ted and leaned against his shoulder happily. Jake slid a BEAUTIFUL silver ring onto her finger; it was a silver band with a bright ruby blood drop shape, with diamonds all around it. Amber finally lost it, and passed out.
“Lovely! Now we know what SHE does under pressure.” Ted laughed, he was so totally joking. Jake launched across the table bowling Ted over. I screamed and jumped back. Jake in his nice brown and white striped button down shirt and nice black slacks was fighting Ted now in the open living room floor. Ted had a solid blue button down shirt, and a pair of ok slacks, so they had a few spots where I had re-stitched them, but you could barely tell. Both men were growling now, low in their throats, and I swear on my life they were moving faster than any human did. Jake had Ted’s arm in a locked position behind him, but Ted did a sweep kick, that I taught him mind you, and both went over backwards, Ted freed his arm and pinned Jake, but Jake bit Ted’s arm, and Ted hissed in pain. I had had enough!
“Both of you knock that off this instant!” I said my full fury was obvious. I walked towards them, black skirt flipping around my calves, my eyes switched from a happy proud dark brown to a dangerous almost white green as my Auburn hair came lose from its bun and it fell down over my shoulders and back to my waist, I shoved it back uncaring. I wore the bracelet Amber had made me in the summer before my freshman year; it was copper wire, with silver, round beads, and flat silver beads with black centers. I loved it. It was probably the last thing Jake saw for the next five minutes. I curled my fist and hit him straight across the face with the back of my fist; he hit the floor, out cold. I whirled on Ted and swung a barefoot to the back of his neck, and he joined Jake and Amber in unconsciousness.
“Anna?” That was Ted’s voice undoubtedly. I knew the other two were awake by now, but I was in my room with the door locked and barred crying.
“Anna... open the door.” He called softly. I could tell he was worried and upset over me, but I did NOT CARE, I knew his brow would be wrinkled and he’d be biting at his top lip gently, it almost made me pause and smile in my crying, almost.
“NO!” I wailed at him “Just leave me alone!!!” I went back to sobbing uncontrollably. I had taken off my nice wrap top black dress with the calf length skirt, and bright diamond accent at the base of the bust, and switched to wearing one of Ted’s over large t-shirts. My copper eye shadow with black eyeliner was running down my face, accompanied by a light amount of mascara. One second I was crying into my pillow, flooding it with tears, next thing I knew the door was open, taken off its hinges, and my face was in Ted’s shoulder crying.
“I’m sorry…” I whispered through the tears. He stroked my hair holding me tightly rocking back and forth.
“Shhhh shhh… nothing to apologize for love” I was glad he was holding me, or I would have probably gone off the bed and into the wall and onto the floor when I passed out from pure exhaustion.
I woke up in my bed, wrapped in blankets, to a cup of coffee, still steaming next to the bed, Ted still had his arms wrapped around me and Amber was going out the door. I made a small noise and she turned and looked at me with a smile.
“I’m fine, Jake’s nose will get better, rest.” She said softly almost giggling then left. I shifted to get an arm free to grab the coffee, and Ted grunted and let go getting up on one arm he looked at me. “Feeling better?” he asked and I smiled. After letting me have a few sips of coffee, he hugged me tightly. I purred softly.
“Mmm…. Purring chicks is Hawt.” He said and I laughed, it had been our joke since I had met him, the same year Amber gave me that bracelet.
“Comforting, sweet guys are hawt.” I replied, and everything was better.
About noon I came out of my room, and Ted went to work, I was dressed, in one of Ted’s T-shirts, and a pair of jeans. My long auburn hair had been roughly brushed back into a ponytail and swung at the base of my shoulder blades. I glanced at Amber with a weak smile and took a few muffins from the pan before grabbing my bag and leaving the house.
“Anna! Wait, where are you going?! I need help planning the wedding! It’s in a MONTH” She called after me, it was Saturday, I didn’t have work, and it was dangerous out in the world.
“Somewhere! I’ll be home in time to cook dinner, so don’t worry about it!” I called back smiling brightly, I started off at a jog towards town. Why didn’t I take the car? I asked myself at least twice on that five mile jog, Because, I told myself, it’s better for you to jog. I was at the doctor’s office in an easy two hours. I hadn’t been feeling quite right, and I hadn’t had my period in two months, I wasn’t thinking and so my theory was I was sick.
“Hey Anna!” Nancy, my favorite receptionist, greeted.
“Hey Nancy! Is Dr. Blanton in?” I asked. Alisha I had known since seventh grade, she was a fabulous doctor! Nancy nodded and pointed towards the door. I smiled at her and went through and down the hall to Alisha’s office.
“Hey! Fishy!!! Can I get a check up?” I asked smiling.
“Sure thing Kitty.” She answered grinning from ear to ear.
“So how are you Amber, Jake and Ted?” she said the last name with a little taunting ‘ooo’ sound to it as she stood up and led me to one of the rooms.
“Amber and Jake are getting married next month, and Ted is fine, and I’d be fine if my periods hadn’t stopped for no reason, and I didn’t feel sick every morning.” I said softly. I left out last nights events on purpose.
“That’s great.” She said and had me sit. After taking my temperature, and a few tests and the other normal things Alisha looked at me.
“Well your pregnant, that’s what’s wrong with you, your perfectly healthy, and should give birth to a strong healthy baby, you are two months pregnant.” Alisha smiled. I simply passed out.
I woke up in Alisha’s car; she had a sweet blue Corvette.
“Fish?” I asked weakly “You were kidding…… right?” I looked at her driving; we were almost to my mini-house-sometimes-called-an-apartment-thingy.
“Nope, I’m serious.” She answered and dropped me off in the driveway. I stumbled into the house and Amber came over.
“What happened to you?” she asked me in her well-no-more-pot-for-you tone.
“Umm... I went in for a checkup, and found out I’m terminal.” I said snorting and straightening up, over the shock now.
“Oh great, my blood sister is terminal! FANTASTIC!” she rolled her eyes. I was remembering when we made a blood oath, my junior year, and her senior year. We had lit a candle, and each sat on one side of it, we used my pocket knife, and each did a small cut in our hands. Then we clasped hands over the candle and said “Forever, together, bound by blood, we are sisters.” I must have said something aloud because when I came out of the memory Amber murmured “Yes, we are blood sisters, together forever... I promise.” And hugged me, I hugged her back, and that’s how the guys found us when Jake came in holding Ted by the throat.
Amber and I released each other looked at each other horrified then at them.
“Jake! Put him down!” Amber commanded confused, shocked and angry.
“Jake... I will kick your ass out on the curb, and then past it and you won’t remember it till next week if you don’t release him this instant!” I screeched furiously. My eyes that had been a golden color in passion, fear, and remembrance turned completely white with the tiniest hint of greenish gold in them. Ted was swinging his legs his feet mere millimeters from the ground, Ted and Jake were the same height.
“You dumb-ass bastard!” Jake was saying, his long emo-cut black hair barely out of his eyes as he swore at MY MAN.
“Put me down….. What the hell are you talkin bout…?” Ted gasped through the death hold on his throat he was trying to alleviate by wrenching at Jake’s hand.
“You dare threaten to touch Amber?! Hmm?!!!!” Jake hissed dangerously. Amber rolled her eyes.
“That is enough, Jake if you don’t put him down this instant and then explain what in all hell and heaven is going on I will shove this ring down your throat and cancel the wedding!” she hissed walking up in her white Capri-jeans, her H.I.M t-shirt went very well with it in my opinion. Jake tossed Ted into a wall, and in my fear for his life I ran to Ted ignoring Jake completely, my eyes swirled a dark green and gold of worry as I kneeled next to Ted.
“Ted? Can you hear me? Are you alright?!” I squeaked. In the back of my mind it seemed I could hear Amber and Jake talking.
“What the hell was that about Jake?!” Amber demanded.
“He threatened you!”
“How?”
“He-he said that maybe you wouldn’t make it to your wedding day, and grinned at me weird.”
“OH MY JESUS GOD JAKE!!! HE WAS KIDDING!” Amber yelled at him smacking upside the head. “God you are too over protective, He knows I’m important to Anna, he wouldn’t hurt me!”
Jake narrowed his eyes “Are you SURE?”
I stood up at that point with Ted and turned to him, my eyes returned their earlier furious color.
“Yes I’m sure, I’d never hurt Amber!” Ted said darkly, he was leaning on me and still quite pale compared to his usual color. His blonde hair was ruffled, and his blue eyes were storming with fury.
“Jake, I want you out of my house.” I hissed “NOW” Amber looked at me surprised.
“Magoo, don’t you think that’s a bit harsh?” she asked me. I looked at her with a deadly glare; my temper was almost visible around me.
“No, I want him out... NOW” I yelled angrily. Amber frowned but understood my reasoning and looked at Jake.
“I’ll come with you, in a day or two. You better go.” She said her brownish red eyes were still upset, but not superbly angry. Jake glanced at me, and Ted then turned and left, I heard his car start, and heard the older ford truck drive away before I turned and walked Ted to our room to settle him down on the bed.
The next Day Amber packed and was ready to go by noon.
“He can have apartment A12, for free, and he can come back in a week” I said softly, not wanting to wake up Ted, who was still sleeping. I was in the kitchen making dog biscuits for my two schnauzers, Lilly-Ann, and Oriel. They were two months old, Oriel was my little guy, he was a salt and pepper schnauzer, and Lilly-Ann was solid black. I loved them as much as I would love my own children. They lived mostly in my room, and our back yard. After about a month in our apartment, we had bought the little complex. We lived in the landlord house; it was a nice, three bedroom, two bathroom, 1800 square feet, one level, with a nice kitchen, house. It had a large backyard, and was on one side of the block, while the apartments took up the rest of the block. I had an herb garden that took up half the yard, and the dog’s played in the rest of the yard. I was a huge herbal medicine fanatic. I made all of my own seasonings, and I made most of my medications. We lived fairly self sufficiently; the renting of the apartments paid for their upkeep, and ours, and made for a nice comfy lifestyle. Ted had his welding shop, and Amber had her own cosmetology shop. Jake worked as a bouncer at a local club. We lived our small, happy life, in perfect peace. I knew the life I had built was a good one, and that I could raise my children well. That didn’t mean I wasn’t in HUGE nuts for being pregnant. First of all, I wasn’t married, second of all, I was only 18, and my parents were going to MURDER ME if they knew.
“Alright, I’ll let him know, see you in a week.” Amber said sadly, taking her suitcase and going out the door.
“Love you!” I called as she shut the door. Sighing I went back to kneading the dough roughly. There was a knock at the door, I sighed and wiped the flour from my hands onto the butt of my jeans, walking to the door. If it was Mrs. Fran again complaining about this that or the other I would be forced to jump off a bridge! I pulled open the door and nearly fell on Die in a hole at who it was.
“Hey Anna!” At that point, I did fall on Die in a hole.
“M-M-Ma-Madi?” I asked my eyes the size of dessert plates. I must have seemed super shocked because he came through the door and picked me up looking at me intently.
“You a’ight?” he asked quickly looking at the flour all over my jeans, the ratty, torn shirt I’d never gotten around to patching that I was wearing, and the way I had my hair in a loose braid pinned up Ka-pi-ki on the side of my head.
“Umm... Yeah…yeah I am fab!” I said smiling weakly. Going back to the kitchen I could smell the burnt dog biscuits in the oven.
“CRAP!!!” I yowled then smacked myself I was going to wake up Ted, and he needed to rest! Madi followed me in, and snickered as I pulled the hot pan out of the oven with smoking black biscuits on it.
“Shut up!” I snapped irritably and he laughed all the harder. At that point Ted came out of our room in a T-shirt and khaki shorts and blinked at me, and the boy I had standing in our dining room watching me deal with burnt biscuits. Oriel came rushing in the house barking at Madi. Oh sure, NOW the dog decides to bark! I thought angrily.
“Aww, cute dog, Anna.” Madi said scratching Oriel’s ears, Oriel the cruel traitor he was tapped his foot panting and wagging his whole little butt in an attempt to shake his not-really-a-tail-stub-of-a-tail.
“Thanks.” I muttered sticking the next batch in the oven.
“Anna? Who is this?” Ted finally spoke coming out of his stupor.
“Madi! Ya know, I told you about him, almost a trillion times? OMEG ok, you fail life Ted, Madison Johns? My old boyfriend?” I was waving my hands as I spoke, a bad habit, signing everything I said.
“Oh, I see.” Ted said blinking he held out his hand.
“I’m Ted, nice to meet you.” He said.
“Like wise” Madi responded smiling and shaking his hand. I could see a spark of dislike pass between my old boyfriend, and my new, this could go poorly. Ted had to play the masculine possessive type and come up to me and wrap his arms around me and kiss me. I sighed and kissed back, but I could have killed him just then.
“Come on Oriel, let’s go find LillyAnn.” I said going out the door to the yard, leaving the two men to their thing. Out in the yard Oriel and LillyAnn were playing tug of war with their green tug rope. I laughed as LillyAnn barked letting go of the rope so Oriel went flying. My laugh stopped as I looked up and saw Galen coming over our fence.
“Hey Galen!!!!” I called standing up again.
“You ready to work on Amber’s dress?” she asked tugging a bag of cloth, and stuff over the fence after her.
“’Course! My sowing machine is inside; I have all of Amber’s measurements, so we can get to work!” I went in the house calling the dogs in after me.
“Madi, Ted, make yourselves scarce, Galen is here, we are doing wedding stuffs!” I hollered running to the closet and grabbing my sowing desk out of it. I glanced at the guys who were staring at each other in the same place I had left them nine minutes ago and saw Madi’s look go from contempt for Ted to horror.
“What wedding?” he asked looking at me, his eyes still wide.
“Amber and Jakes!” I said smiling it never occurred to me he thought I was getting married.
“Oh...” he said glancing around a little he smiled that kind of this-is-really-awkward-what-do-I-say-now smile.
“Hey Madi, did you need an apartment to stay in? I’ll rent you one of ours for either uber cheap or free?” I offered to break the awkwardness as I set up the sowing machine.
“Uh… yeah... I do actually, which apartment should I move into?” I tossed him a set of keys grinning.
“Apartment B7, its nice, one bedroom, one bath, full kitchen, living room, Cable...and internet” I grinned at him, I knew exactly what he wanted in a house or apartment. He smiled back then grabbed his bags, and went out to his new apartment.
“Anyway, Ted why don’t you take the dogs for a walk, it’ll be good for you to get some exercise.” I smiled at him and handed him both leashes.
“Alright, I don’t wanna be here for the giggle fits anyway…” he took the leashes and went out the door with the dogs before putting the leashes on…which probably meant he had to chase LillyAnn half way across Alberta.
“So, what do you think of the dress?” Galen and I were bursting with pride at our work. It fit Amber perfectly. It was two weeks after Jake had been forced out, and was now back home with us, so was Amber.
“It’s AMAZING!!! You two are brilliant, I love it!” Amber was twirling around a few times in her dress. It was black, with gold accents. It had a full length black skirt, with gold lace on the hem. The bodice was also black, with a gold satin strip at the top. Between the bodice and the skirt was a sash, a wide ribbon sash in gold, with an amethyst pin where it crossed, so the tails could hang down her hip. It was sleeveless, and fit her very well; she looked like a princess of the darkness. Her short, blonde and purple hair would be spiked, and put into a gold crown, with a black veil, and her jewelry would all be gold, with amethyst gemstones. The Maid of Honor dress that I would wear was solid black, with a little gold lace, and I had amethyst and gold jewelry. The whole wedding was coming together beautifully.
“So Anna, since I’m getting married tomorrow, when is your and Ted’s Wedding?” Amber teased. I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“You know perfectly well we aren’t like that, I doubt we will ever marry.” I said with a sigh of sadness, I’d always wanted a wedding dress… maybe stitch mom’s dress, take it out a few hundred sizes and wear it… I was about a foot taller than my mom was at her full height, she had married at height of 5 foot, I was now 6 foot 2 inches, I also had about twice the chest size my mom had at her wedding.
I glanced out of the room at the back of the church where we had the wedding party waiting for the wedding to start. The oak wood pews were filled with people we knew, and family of the bride, family of the groom, close friends, wedding assistants, and even some business partners. The inside of the church was decorated with gold cloth, and gold flowers, gold and black roses, with some bright purple accents made the whole room seem to glow with a beauty in shadow, it was like being in the twilight; Where the last golden rays of sun streak across the looming shadows of night. Amber looked glorious, and I mean truly GLORIOUS. Her dress, her hair, all of it was perfect; she glittered like a star, a black star giving off golden rays in the twilight, almost like the first star as the dusk grows. I heard the music start, we sent forward the ring-bearer and then flower girls to take their places. Next marched Amber, with her dad, who actually decided to show up for the wedding, almost making her cry, I followed behind with the other brides maids. I wore my maid of honor dress, black wrap top in a halter strap style, with an amethyst rose at the base of the bust, it had a gold cord around the base of the bust, that tied with the rose. The skirt hung at my ankles, it was a smooth flowing skirt. I had taken the time to do two tiny braids in my hip length hair, then braid the whole thing together and put it up in a bun on the top of my head. My flaming auburn hair was up, and looked good. Amber and I had matching shoes, hers were gold, mine were black, stiletto heels, with pretty across the toes, then criss-cross over the top of the foot, and around the ankle straps. We stood at the altar, and the priest began.
“We are gathered here today…” yada yada yada blah blah blah. Just as Amber said “I do” and they put on the rings, everything went wrong. The doors crashed open, and in marched a legion of 100 Zombies, the whole congregation started to run. My first thought was ‘man do they know how to ruin a special day’ second thought you ask? ‘HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET IN A CHURCH!!! IT IS HOLY BY GOD!!!!’
“What the?!” Amber managed as Jake and Ted shoved the two of us back into the groom’s dressing room.
“Jake?! What the hell are you doing? You can’t handle them any more than we can!!!” Amber screamed bashing against the now locked door. I was fuming, what gave Ted the SLIGHTEST idea he could live through this on his own! I’m the one who taught him most of his martial arts skills… oh he was so DEAD when I got out of here, just because I’m in a dress does not mean I can’t fight, or flee.
“TED!!!!!!!! IF YOU LIVE THROUGH THIS I WILL KILL YOU!!!” I screamed. Amber looked at me and an idea hit us both instantly. We took off our shoes, and I pulled out a bobby pin and started to pick the lock. I got the door unlocked and we smashed it down off its hinges for dramatic effect as we came out slinging our shoes, and my pocket knife. Amber and I started smashing Zombies to the ground… we turned to look around and all twenty zombies that remained alive charged us… both of our guys were taking out zombies like it was nothing…. teeth flashed, Jake was aiming a gun, shooting zombies with, and I swear it, silver bullets. Ted was ripping them in half, like an angry dog would a doll, it was insane. Details didn’t click till twenty minutes later, when Amber and I stood panting, dead zombies around us, both our dresses ripped till mine was a halter top with a jagged skirt around my thighs, and Amber had the corset part of her dress, and a ripped hem that was around the top of her knees. Both of us had cuts that were bleeding, and lots of bruises, my hair had fallen out of the bun and hung in a long braid at my mid-back.
“Christ…. May whoever the hell invited these f**k**g zombies burn for eternity in hell!” Amber spat blood quickly, her eyes snapped ot Jake and Ted who were panting and looking at each other with respect for once.
“Good Job Jake, I’m surprised…” Ted said.
“You too bro… your not so bad.” The two shook hands.
“Excuse me… boys! I’m glad we are finally getting along… but WHAT THE f**k ARE YOU TWO THINKING??!!!!” I started out sounding sweet, and they looked at us and their eyes went wide, both had red eyes, how weird. My sweet call changed to one pissed off yell in a matter of seconds. Again my fury was obvious and I stomped towards them through dead zombie guts in bare feet…. Oh ew. Amber followed, her eyes flashing death. Jake ran to her and hugged her… kissing her. She submitted briefly before smacking him across the face, not as angry as I was.
“Jesus Anna, what’s wrong with you... We were just trying to protect you…” Ted said taking a step towards me. I smacked him with the flat part of my shoe. It made a lovely loud fwap!
“Ow… Christ girl! We are all alright, I think you should be a little happier!” he snapped at me… Amber looked at me confused… she didn’t even know why I was this upset.
“Theodore Warman…” I hissed angrily “I want my child to grow up with two parents or zero! Understand?!” I spat at him my eyes were almost white I was so mad.
“Wha…..” Ted was cut off by a shriek from Amber.
“OH MY JESUS GOD!!! YOU’RE PREGNANT??!!” she shrieked running up and hugging me, Zombie guts and all. Ted stood stiff and still like some kind of rock pillar.
“Congrats Anna and I’m thinking Ted.” Jake said “Can we all go take a shower now?” He asked Ted was still just standing there.
“Yes Newt… I’m pregnant, yes its Ted’s... and apparently he just died.” I snapped. Ted reached over and hugged me.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“Didn’t see it as important yet….. Until you almost got killed.” I said still irritable.
“But Zombies can’t kill me… at least not with out a lot of work.”
“Oh? And what makes you so sure?” I growled my eyes now a pale green instead of white.
“I better explain this one…” Jake volunteered cautiously. “See, when they made the Zombie gene, their enemies created a antidote of sorts… the Vampire Gene… and Ted and I both contracted it…….” He said softly. Now it was my turn to stand there in a daze, I felt like somebody had dropped a brick on my head, and instead of hitting me, it went through the middle of me, and just kept falling.
“Soo… you tow are Vampires? Which makes Anna’s kid a Vampira?” Amber asked in her lovely blunt unsurprised way.
“Pretty much.” Ted answered letting go of the rock pillar I had turned into.
“Why…. Didn’t… you tell me sooner?” I asked shocked.
“Same reason you didn’t tell me I am a father?” Ted said almost question like.
“Wow… I feel... outta the loop!” Amber exclaimed.
“I think we all need to go home and take a shower….” Jake said softly. I nodded, and we all turned to leave the church, walking silently.
After a week of getting used to the idea that Vampires existed, and that I lived with two of them, I had to explain to Amber and Ted that I was now four months pregnant, and that I was converting the third bedroom into a nursery, for when the baby could sleep for an hour without me, and so I’d have a place to sleep with the baby, and so my room could be used as an escape from the baby.
if your wondering, this is not my life plan, this is a really weird dream I have been having for the last two months, so I started to write it down here it is
I had graduated high school; Amber was in school of cosmetology, and due to amazing skills with hair, going to graduate early that summer. I had been begging her for months to come with me to Canada that year to visit Ted.
