"That one's got spirit" SaltyCreek mumbled softly watching where the kit had disappeared. "I reckon we're supposed to follow him?" He decided looking toward SodPelt and RockPrism for an answer.

SodPelt sighed with irratation. "Catch the squirt than meet us." Before leaving camp he paused, looking back at the two. "The Clan needs prey. So don't take long." And then he was gone, the opposite direction of SludgeKit. MinnowStep grinned lightly at SaltyCreek before taking off after SludgeKit, being careful not to trod in the muddiest parts.

SaltyCreek nodded to SodPelt and then ran after SludgeKit taking a different route than Minnowstep, but he was going by the same tactic as her. He could now see SludgeKit in sight...

SludgeKit slowed, thinking he was far enough. He turned his head, just to make sure, just to see two very determined-looking warriors after him.
Uh-oh.
His litter paws started running, but they only slipped in the mud. He got up, now brown, and ran as fast as he could. He even jumped in a swamp! He started swimming for the other side....

SaltyCreek was practically on top of the young tom right before SludgeKit jumped into the swamp. His first attempt at grabbing the kit missed. He ran parallel along a log that was across the swamp and as he ran by grabbed SludgeKit right out of the swamp... He couldn't slow his momentum and ran right off the log and into a thick batch of mud... but he successfully had SludgeKit pinned down at least.

Alarm made SludgeKit shriek. With the extra weight of pinning down, he was sinking into the mud. Already, it was up to his cheeks...

SaltyCreek was back on his paws now though and grabbed the kit and sat him on more solid ground. He put his paw on his tail though to make sure he didn't try running off again. SaltyCreek was grumbling about having mud all over himself by this point. "What do you think you're doing?" He grumbled licking his other paw to get the mud off his face.

SludgeKit rubbed the mud off his own with his front paws. "Yay! Mud, mud, muddy mud," he sang. He then looked up at the tom.
"No, what do you think you are doing?" he asked, smiling sweetly.
He looked at his tail and grimaced. "No fair."

"Life ain't fair... get over it" SaltyCreek muttered after he was finished getting the mud away from his face. "I'M gonna take you back to camp now, so I can get on my life... once I'm gone then you can go play suicide in the mud" He continued.

"Why?" he asked innocently. "I could stay outside and play peacefully. Mommy doesn't care.. I think."
He closed his eyes, picturing his mother's furious face. Yeah, no one wanted to see ShellShore angry. It wasn't a pretty sight, a furious deputy.
He shivered.

"Because I was ordered to get you soooo that's what I'm gonna do... Of course after I disappear to go hunting.... I don't care if you go drown yourself in the swamp... As long as they sent another cat out to get you..." SaltyCreek continued in a low mutter, now turning to look around MinnowStep who shouldn't have been that far behind him.

MinnowStep caught up soon enough. She had been temporarily crippled by some brambles and vines, but managed to free herself. She swam strongly through the swamp on the path SludgeKit had taken to SaltyCreek. Being her swiming-cat origins, she was pulling herself out of the water in a heartbeat, her creamy pelt plastered to her body. "Don't be so tough on him, SaltyCreek. Every kit gets in trouble once and a while." She shot the small kit a scolding glare. "But some seem to get into more trouble than others."

SludgeKit smiled widely.
"I think she likes me," he whispered to SaltyCreek.
The kit bowed his head to MinnowStep. "I am sure pleased to hear that, m'lady. Now, would my valiant warrior here please escort me back to camp?" he asked, looking pointedly at SaltyCreek. "And release my tail would be nice, too."

"Yes, valiant warrior." she teased. "Release my tiny prince's tail so he can return to his kingdom." She rested her tail on SludgeKit's back.

SaltyCreek rolled his eyes "anything for you oh mighty queen" He meowed sarcastically letting go of the kits tail and starting to walk away.

He bowed once last time at MinnowStep. "Thank you, milady."
Then SludgeKit padded away toward camp, a smile playing on his lips.
Once he was far enough, he shouted a triumphant "Yes!"

MinnowStep cocked her head and smiled in SludgeKit's direction. She followed in his wake to make sure he headed back to camp and didn't run off again.

"Perfect!" Fairydance rolled over on her back, displaying her stomach it was slightly bulged, making the tiny little she-cat look slightly unbalanced. she batted at his face and whiskers like a kit.
