The Soldiers of Ohu is an intermediate to advanced roleplay based on the 'Ginga' series by Yoshihiro Takahashi. Knowledge about the shows aren't needed to roleplay here, however.
TSO is not limited to only one species of playable character. Any creature native to the lands of modern-day Japan are available to your usage, plus things like experiments.
