Lethe came out of the Nursery, looking around. It was early morning, and many cats were stirring. Finally she found what she was looking for: a glimpse of bronze tabby fur. With an annoyed sigh she padded toward her brother, her golden eyes questioning while his were unsure. At the familiar sound of her silver necklace jingling, she looked down to see the small metal lightning hanging from it. A gift from her mother before she passed away.
"What's up?" she asked, kind of like a greeting and a question at the same time.
Helios looked down at his petite sibling, forcing a smile as greeting.
"Did you know, Lethe, that we're six moons old now?"
"Do you think I'm dumb or something? 'Course I know that, rock-brained!"
He ignored her comments. "It's the age clan cats become apprentices," he hinted.
"So?"
"We're going to have mentors. And usually they add a 'Paw' at the end of our name."
She looked at him as if he were brain-washed or something. "Why in the name of Hades are you telling me this? I know! What's the point?"
Helios seemed disappointed she didn't guess. "I want to change my name. To adjust." He sighed at the murderous black look she gave him. It was always ten time worst when Lethe gives a dark look than any other cats. Her eyes turned pitch-black, and they had no pupils or whites, which also make it quite scary.
"Are you mad?" she exploded. "It's an insult to Mom by changing our names! An insult to our beliefs. And we aren't even staying!"
"I am staying. And if she knew in what situation we were, she would approve that we get a new family."
"Is it about DawnKit or JeweledKit? Is it because you have a crush on someone?" she hissed, rolling her eyes, though it was impossible for anyone to know that she rolled them.
Helios blushed. "Of course not!"
"It's still an insult to our beliefs."
"Actually, no. I'm going to ask if EverStar would change my name to SunPaw during the ceremony. Helios is the god who represents the sun," the tabby explained, nervously flicking his tail.
She sat down and glared at him. "Well I don't want to stay. Hadn't you notice that in everything we gotten into turned out bad?" she said, her voice somehow calmer, as if she was trying to knock some sense into him.
"You could change your name to DeathPaw."
"No way!"
"Fine, then. See ya."
He got up from where he sat and padded toward the leader's den, leaving his sister fuming behind him.
The tiny black she-kit snickered angry, digging raptor-like claws into the muddy ground. Wonderful. Totally wonderful. She looked around with narrowed eyes, and realized without feeling any guilt that her confrontation with her brother woke up pretty much all the clan. "Good morning, Boggies," Lethe muttered.
((Anyone?))
