EmeraldKit giggled as she crawled through masses of bushes and tree roots. "I can't believe we lost 'em!" she mewed excitedly to CurledKit, who was a few rabbit-length's ahead of her. Skipping a few paces, EmeraldKit caught up with the tom-kit, whom she thought cute and adventurous, rather than the ugly and different most cats thought instead. "So, whatcha' wanna do?" EmeraldKit purred the question. She was so excited, her whole body was shaking, finally she had gotten out of camp and was exploring the boundaries. And the fact that CurledKit was with her, just made it all the better!

CurledKit grinned at EmeraldKit. "Whatever we want to do. We're finally out!" He lept in the air joyously at his last sentence, landing back down lightly on his feet. He was so happy, he could just star laughing randomly. CurledKit couldn't count the many times he'd sulked, bored, in the nursery.

EmeraldKit smiled again and ran in a circle around CurledKit. "We could hunt prey, or..." She looked around, then her eyes fell on the swamp "GO SWIMMING!" she purred. Being a cat of NatureClan she, and most the rest of the clan, were born knowing how to swim, and didn't mind water. "Want to?!" she asked CurledKit, her paws kneading the ground excitedly.

The orange little tom looked skeptically at the swamp. He wasn't a born NatureClanner. Something inside of his disliked the water immensely. "Are you sure you want to swim?"

"Ya!" EmeraldKit said excitedly, then saw the look on CurledKit's face, and she giggled. "Unless you'd rather stay on dry land!" she said with a smirk.

"I like dry land. It can't drown you." CurledKit meowed back, sticking his tounge out at EmeraldKit. "StarClan knows why you guys like this stuff." He peered over the side into the swamp and dabbed at it with a paw.

EmeraldKit laughed and padded over to the edge of the water and dipped her paws in. "It feels good!" she purred, "Nice and cool!"

"It clump your fur together and makes you cold." the curled-eard kit grumbled back. He extended a single claw into the water, put jerked it quickly back when a tiny fish nibbled at it. "And there are little things in there."

EmeraldKit grinned, "Fish, and frogs, and crawdads!" she meowed naming the few swamp dwelling creatures she had learned about from the apprentices. "Some cats say there fun to chase!" she purred, looking down at the water and watching two fish fight over a bug. "And I bet they are! They can swim really fast!" as she said this a frog darted across the top of the water past her and toward CurledKit.

CurledKit watched the frog distastefully. "They look all rubbery. I bet they're not good to eat, Well, I don't eat them." He usually picked one of the few mammals out of the fresh-kill pile to eat, leaving the frogs and such for the warriors and apprentices. But then he turned to look at EmeraldKit while watching the frog. He would swim for her. Hw would swim across the world for her. "If you want to, I guess we can.."

"No I don't mind!" EmeraldKit meowed quickly, "I don't want to if i'd make you feel bad!" She knew how cats that didn't know how to swim, or didn't like to, looked after they'd been in the water. She shivered at the thought of CurledKit looking like this because of her.

"If you really, want to do it, then swim we shall." CurledKit grinned at EmeraldKit, tilting his head to the side like he always did. Just out of habit, he shook himself to fluff up his bright orange pelt. He'd look like a life preserver floating along in the water.

EmeraldKit laughed, and, backing up a few steps, she ran and leaped into the water. After her head submerged, EmeraldKit let herself sink a bit before pushing up, aginst the water, with all four paws, to break the surface with her head.

CurledKit hesitated a moment, clearly not wanting to, but closed his eyes, held his breath, and launched himself into the water near EmeraldKit, sending a wave over her. The inital shock of the water hitting him, caused CurledKit to open his eyes and mouth to protest. He shot to the surfacem choking on some of the water, but steadying himself so he could stay afloat.

Worry shot through EmeraldKit, she swam strongly over to CourledKit, for the wave had pushed her away. "Are you ok?!" she asked him, seeing the kit choking.

"Fine, fine." CurledKit grunted, waving away EmeraldKit. "I just..swallowed some water, is all. Go back to your swimming.:" The orange pelted kit rolled over to he drifted lazily on his back through the water. He may not like it very much, but he knew how to swim.

EmeraldKit dove underwater and swam a few feet, then came back up and got a good look at CurledKit, and had to laugh. He really did look like a life preserver floating on his back along the water the way he was.

Grinning, but still on his back, CurledKit splashed some water at EmeraldKit. "It's not nice to laugh at people. Now swim away, little fishy-cat."

EmeraldKit laughed again "You got it life preserver!" she meowed and swam to the center of the swamp where she floated looking around.

CurledKit smiled to himself as he swam away. He looked back up to the sky as the soft lapping from their splashes in the swamp took him along. His bright blue eyes then turned to look back down to where EmeraldKit had been. "EmeraldKit?" He shouted out, not seeing her. Did she drown? Had something happened? Did something eat her? "EmeraldKit!" Little did CurledKit know, he had gotten turned around in the water so he was looking the wrong way.

CurledKit's heart rate decreased from when he saw that she was alright, but increased from her touch. It happend so fast that it felt like, for a moment, his heart had all together stopped beating. It left a little ache in his chest. "Oh...I hadn't noticed."

"It's ok!" EmeraldKit mewed. Then looked at CurledKit's wet and matted fur. "Wanna go back to shore?" she asked, then added, "I'll help you lick your fur out!"

"Yes, please." Curledkit rolled back over to the upright position, and paddled back to shore. Reaching it, he stood. HIs pelt was plastered on to his body, but he didn't look as small from lack of fur as you would think. Turns out, CurledKit did have some muscle under there.

"Wow!" EmeraldKit meowed, climbing out of the water next to him. "Muscular!" she purred, and shook her fur to get the loose water out.
