Demura led the way into the alleys, slipping through the electrified fence, the only rubber thing she carried with her to protect her was a rubber tubing bracelet around her left paw, it worked fairly well, for her. She had been chatting amiably about the way humans thought they owned cats, animals, and sections of the earth, not territory they fought over, they paid with small metal and cotton things called coins and dollars.... and after that nobody challenged them for their territory, how odd it was....Once she was through the fence she looked back at Damien. "Do you have something rubber to get you through? We kill at least two cats a moon on that fence, because they forget their rubber...." she remembered the last body, some dumb gypsy went through with no rubber, and a LOT of metal on, what a horribly fried body that had been to pick up...

"Nope." Already, Damien was taking off the few piercings he'd aquired as a Rogue; a pair of thick metal bars for his right ear and a left half snakebite. He put them under a bit of pavement, unwilling to take a chance with the electric fence. He glanced around, feeling fidgety. It was getting dark and Alley Rogues were beginning to leave their dens to wander around the area. Their shadows lurked around the edges of his vision... He could easily be recognised as a Cavern Rogue: an enemy. But chances were he was bigger than any single enemy he would encounter here. His pale eyes drifted back to Demura, waiting on the other side of the fence. There was quite a cache of disguarded rubber bracelets, necklaces, and tail rings around the area, left behind by cats who had left Alley Rogue territory and figured that they no longer needed them. He fitted a few on and scaled the fence after Demura, paws prickling at the electric current that made his fur stand up but was kept at bay by the rubber things he'd picked up. He looked around again, this time for an indicator of where Demura's home might be. He had no idea... "Ladies first." Sort of a stupid joke, seeing as he couldnt possibly lead her to her own library.

Demura chuckled, soft bells rolling down a staircase.... and flipped her tail across his nose once. "Of course..." she led the way to the left, among the brightest of the visible alleys, not that any of them were extremely bright, nor cheery.... She had a light bouncy skip to her step as she walked, with an almost perfected femininity... "I remember the last cat we fried on the fence.... some dumb gypsy tried to get in, no rubber, and a heck of a lot of metal, ahhh what a sparkly show that was... with copper as the majority of the metal, Copper is the best conductor after all, according to the humans.... " she would have adjusted her glasses if she had them, rather she licked down some fur that hadn't settled quite right when she had crossed over the fence... "Well, let's see.. this one." she turned to a door, it had a cat door int he apartment like door, she slid in through it, the building looked filthy on the outside, like some old squatters house...
Inside every available wall space was covered by books, organized alphabetically..... the room looked extremely clean in comparison to the outside. The walls were covered in brown book-cases, and filled with books, some empty spaces on the shelves showed where she was waiting for some book orders to arrive.... a few books were on the floor, open to certain pages... it looked like the ultimate book worm heaven. There was a beanie bag in the corner, covered in soft fabrics, her nest....
"Welcome to my humble abode..." she sighed with a smile on her face as she quickly took inventory on her shelves.

"Cozy." Damien meowed, closing his eyes breifly to take in all the scents that assaulted him. "Must have taken you forever to collect all these." He walked in after her, keeping light on his paws to avoid stepping on any of her collection. He glanced down at a book open to an intricate drawing of an herb he'd never seen. The picture was surrounded by odd alien symbols pointing to various parts of the plant. He turned a few pages and quickly realized it was a medicine book. God, his sister Swiffer would kill for something like this. "And you know how to read this stuff?" He looked at Demura and was once again struck by how beautiful and perfectly female she was. Only the stars knew how he'd managed to find her when she was single. She-cats like this couldnt stay single for long...

Demura glanced at what he was looking at "Of course....." she purred. Looking at him reminded her of the first time she had met a tom.... for some reason she had a faint memory of a tom before that one.... a white one... with sharp purple hate filled eyes... hmmm bu tit disappeared quickly as her mind scanned through a few of the more memorable 'boyfriends' she had gathered, and dumped. Toms never lasted long, and being single lasted for even less time. "So tell me about you... Please?" her question was innocent and sweet as she looked at him with her soft violet eyes from where she sat on the other side of the book from him. Light filtered in from a cloudy cracked and dirty window above them, playing shadows across both their fur, and the floor, shadows on her made of an interesting effect, Glowing white fur, black spots, and shadows... hmmm...

"Well," Damien settled comfortably on one of the bean bags and wondered how to start. He decided to go with the part of his life that he'd liked the best. "I was a Spirit Rogue for most of my kithood..." He flicked one ear, judging her reaction. If she looked interested, he'd continue. If not, he'd move on.

"Really? I've heard of the Spirit Rogues.. what was that like? what are you doing now?" she settled down laying down front paws crossed delicately over each other to listen to him intently, storing all the information for later. Her eyes sparkled with interest and joy to finally have someone to talk to, especially someone with new information for her to learn.

He hid a smile, "Being a Spirit Rogue was the most awesome thing. I was trained by Whisper," He almost explained who Whisper was but stopped, realizing that a learned cat like Demura would know all about Illusion's family line. "And I had a fellow apprentice named Mistletoe. We lived in the Deep, but no spirits ever bothered us because we were Whisper's friends and he taught us how not to irritate them..."

"So whisper.... that is one of Illusion's sons? yes? or.... hmmm..." she stood up briefly, feeling totally irritated with the slip of memory, ugh... she never forgot things! She quickly pulled out a book, one an old traveling gypsy had written about two YEARS ago, she had found it in an abandoned building that still had the sign 'historian' over it, it listed all the old family lines... she flipped through the pages deftly to the one with the Illusion family tree "Ugh, no I was wrong, Illusion's grandson... how horrible to screw up like that." she sighed. "Sorry, I interrupted please, continue!" she closed the book slid it back into the shelf, and then lay back down in front of him to listen, her eyes still absolutely adoring as he told her his life...

He skipped over the supernatural parts of being a Spirit Cat for the sake of not making her think he'd lost his brain and went on to tell a bit about Spirit Cat politics, the cats there, and the territory. "When I left it was because our leader, Savarifi, started letting in every sob story that asked. The Spirit Cats became much less exculsive and the cats that joined were..." He shrugged and made a face. "I went to live with my sister Swiffer. She's a Cavern Rogue herbalist. Sometimes I work with my uncle Renzo on Lone Rogue jobs, but usually I just bug Swiffer. I've kinda just done that ever since." Damien yawned after finishing his story. It was getting really late. "So how'd you get interested in books??"

"Well, when i was little I had a knack for memorizing things, moves i'd seen someone do, things people said... all that. So my Mom Nita, said I was gifted, and that I should be taught to read... so she sent me to live with this kittypet, total nerd, who lives at a college person's house... ad I did, she taught me to read... and I found out how much I could learn frombooks... it was brilliant the worlds and ideas it opened up for me... hten when I was supposed to return home I only half wanted to... but I thought you know, I could take books with me, get new books.. all that, and then on my way home these toms.... came to me... and talked to me, told me they wanted to help me... that i couldn't return home, it wasn't safe, but I'd be safe with them, they brought me here.. they staid a while, then one day, just vanished... poof, gone.... I was alone again, nothing to do, but i kind of liked the people here, so I started looking for a place to stay, found this little hovel, and then I saw all the shelves, and knew I could get books, and that is what I did." she told him with a smile, then something clicked in her head, why Spirit Rogues had seemed so important to her.... "Hey, Damien? when you were in the spirit cats.. was their a guard, one who guarded the Spirit cat tunnels, staid by the river, with a white pelt... and sharp violet eyes?" she asked confusion and worry in her voice. That tom, she knew was important, but she didn't know why....

"White pelt, violet eyes..." Damien repeated to himself. Because of Mirage's line, there were many Illusion descendants with white fur and violet eyes. "You dont mean Malice?" Malice was the cat who immediately came to mind when he thought of sharp-eyed cats with the above description. But Malice was dead... right? "Dante, also. And Ever came to Spirit Cats every once in awhile, but she wasnt a tunnel guard."

"No no.. umm a tom.. Dante? that sounds familiar........ Don't ask em why, but I THINK I now that tom.... for some reason he is important... you wouldn't happen to know where he is now would you?" her one trackmind, okay wait, she was too easily distracted... but Right now her mind had clicke dhalfway into a set of very young childhood memories, her last memories of the tunnels...
The white tom with similar eyes to hers growled, 'everything is about you Demura.. I'm a nothing, a nobody, Dante certainly fits, Dante means Nobody doesn't it? does one of your little foreign teachers tell you that?" he sneered at her "Dante.. please, don't do anything stupid, I'm not that important, besides lots of cats get ignored by mum...." it was her voice, when she was younger than rang with a sadness that wrenched at the heart.. "No, don't you get it?! I mean nothing, to anyone! They don't even remember I exist! and I'm her SON!" with that he ran off down and over the black river... to die they all said.. nobody lived through going beyond the river... nobody....

"I havent been there in a long time." Damien flicked his tail, almost like a shrug. He wondered if Dante was a long lost lover. That made him hesitate before saying, "We could go looking for him, if you want. I know the tunnels well enough that we wouldnt get lost."

Demura stood up happily. "Really? you would do that for me?" she licked his cheek, practically quivering in her happiness at him being willing to help her find this memory that plagued her.... "I'd be so grateful, I have no idea who he is, or why he is important to me... but it is a vague memory that keeps bothering me..."

Damien nodded, flushing under his fur. "We should leave now, before traffic starts at the In-Between." At night, there werent many cats out there, but once the sun rose, every conflicting Rogue group could be found at the In-Between, trouble makers galore...

"Alright, Lead teh way..." she purred standing near him, brushing her fur against his side. Perfectly ready to follow him to the ends of the world at this point... like some kind of horribly intelligent puppet..... she'd do anything for him if he could help her get this pestering memory out of her head, or into it, one way or the other...

=Several Hours Later=
As the sun began to rise, Damien and Demura entered the caverns. Several Cavern Rogues shot Demura unfriendly looks, but they didnt say anything; Damien was with her, so either she was already a prisioner or she was a friend. He led her unwaveringly downwards, through huge caverns and tight-squeeze tunnels... They got to the river, a thin narrow little thing that let out cold obscuring mist like no tomorrow.

Demura followed him neatly skipping over anything in her way, staying clear of any filth they encountered, and not even glancing at the cats surrounding them in the upper levels... when they reached the river she shivered. "eww.. how does anyone live near that... it gives me the creeps.." her voice was soft, hushed, halfway frightened sounding, she pressed closer to Damien for comfort in this alien creepy place.
"Who comes to the Black river? go no further..." a set of sharp almost hateful violet eyes appeared through the mist, the whole cat was hidden in teh shadow, and hard to make out, but being glowing white made him visible.... just.

"It's just me." Damien meowed. Once a Spirit Cat, always a Spirit Cat... unless you got kicked out. Damien had left of his own free will. "I brought someone who wanted to see you." Damien looked to the frightened Demura. Was this the cat she'd come to see? Dante?

"Oh joy...." Dante leaped over the river in one easy bound, landing next to Damien with barely more than a thud. He looked at Damien,a nd the she-cat next to him, then hissed dropping into a crouch, ready to attack,
Demura froze, it was the tom from her vague memory, he recognized her too. she could tell. oomph!
Dante had launched and Pinned Demura with a snarl, claws digging into her chest, blood welled around his claws as anger filled his mind, nothing but fury and pain in his mind.
Demura shrieked driving one clawed paw into her twin's face dragging her claws from forehead to nose and attempting to kick himoff, but he was bigger and stronger than she was....

Damien, bigger and therefore stronger than Dante, shoved him away from Demura. Would it have been so hard on Demura to mention that Dante wanted to kill her before Damien brought up meeting Dante?? "What's your problem?!" He hissed, lashing his tail. He was now between Dante and the gasping Demura. If Dante tried to attack again, he'd meet Damien head on...

Demura hissed rolling to her feet and licking her chest, which was bleeding just a little from where his claws were.
Dante was bleeding down half his face. "Why would you bring the wretch here?!" he snapped shaking his head trying to get the blood out of his eye. His fur bristled angrily as he growled, barely resisting the urge to try and get past Damien to rip out her throat.
Demura sighed. "I come here to figure out who you are. and why you keep slipping in and out of my memories.... and get myself almost killed... sheesh!" Demura snapped unhappy now, but extremely grateful to Damien she nosed his hip gently to show her gratitude for the moment.
"Yeah, you ruined my life.. I think that gives me reason to want to kill you wench!" Dante snapped furious....

The brown tom hissed softly, "Dante, explain." After Dante explained his story, Demura could tell her's. Maybe then they'd get to the bottom of why Demura had memories of Dante and why Dante hated Demura.

Dante growled "What is there to explain.. she just had to be so perfect... nobody remembered I existed... not even our mother....I was a nothing, a nobody, I just vanished in their minds... even she couldn't bother to play or talk to her twin more than once every few weeks... this that and the other person doting on her, training her to be the ultimate spy, the ultimate weapon..... everything was Demura this Demura that, Demura demura demura, Brilliant Demura... Fantastic Demura, who is Dante? nobody knows....." he growled angrily and having told the sotry he gave up on keeping from trying to attack her and tried to dive past Damien at her..
Demura squeaked and backed up when he jumped at her to Damien's left...
