A silver tabby she-cat, around in her twenty or so moons, entered the camp. She seemed wary and uncomfortable with being here, and she smelled strongly of loners. Following her was much younger tortoiseshell she-cat/kit, in her 8 moons, who would of been identical to ShadedPaw if it wasn't for the fur. The tortoiseshell meowed something like a thanks to the loner, and the silver tabby nodded and dashed away before anyone could do anything.
The tortoiseshell seemed to be half-dead. She was starved, with ragged fur crusted with her own blood, and many deep gashes, some who had already turned into scars. But she seemed to had cared for herself quite well except that, a poultice on her wounds to heal them faster and make sure they don't get infected. It was sun-high and she looked around at the warriors, some looking at her with disbelief, as if they were seeing a ghost.
SpottedKit took a deep breath, and forced a sweet smile. This cat had disappeared for more than 5 moons, everyone believing she was dead.
"Hello, everyone."

"SPOTTY! SPOTTY SPOTTY SPOTTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ShadedPaw yowled bounding quickly out of the apprentices' den somehow recognizing her sister's scent from the den.... or perhaps Pepper had told her, but however she knew she stopped right outside, her eyes darting around the camp until she spotted her sister. With several huge bounds she tackled her sister. Other cats watch bewildered at the young apprentice's behavior... usually so hard and cold, was now soft and somewhat warm as she saw Spottedkit.
VioletStar looked up from talking with her deputy and some warriors. Her eyes narrowed, in surprise at the return of ShadedPaw's long lost sister.

SpottedKit's smile widened as her sister tackled her, turning into a joyful laugh. "ShadedKit! How're doing?" she purred. She had fallen over when ShadedPaw tackled her, being too weak, tired and sore to resist from the fall, and she was now struggling to get up, her legs shaking. "Sorry I took so long."
The cats were now murmuring, some hostile that a impure-blood came back, others amazed and happy, but some were also unsure on what side to go on.

ShadedPaw's eyes suddenly hardened though not to much.... "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!? I THOUGHT YOU'D DIED!" She hissed angrily. She wasn't being as mean to her sister as she was to many other cats.... plus it was obvious that she had been really worried until she'd just given up that Spotty was alive.

Sadness crept in her dark amber eyes. She looked around, uneasy having such an audience, but managed a smile at her great aunt VioletStar.
"I got lost," she said. It wasn't completely a lie, she told herself.
Finally SpottedKit gave up and the whole story came blurting out of her mouth. "After VampireBat came to get us and you left to go see Dad for a while, I followed you through the In-Between, that desert. But I got lost. An AbyssClanner took advantage of that and tortured me with terrible visions." She took a deep breath. "Visions of you and my friends going through all kind of terrible death. Visions of how the future will be like if StarClan wasn't." She paused again, looking down at her paws for that her sister couldn't see the tears rolling down her cheek. "As if that wasn't enough, he sent foxes and badgers at my trail." That would explain the scars and marks, and all the crusted blood in her ragged pelt. "But I fooled him, with the help of Golden, Silver and Bronze. A red spirit led me back to NatureClan," she finished, trying to sound more cheerful at the end. Many cats would think she was crazy because of her last words, and she ignored the snickers around her.

"Ummmm very interesting story....." ShadedPaw meowed casting angry glares, that would silence anyone, at anyone who snickered at her sister's story. She actually did believe her sister.... they both had some very close relationship with their ancestors.... though still completely different personality wise. ShadedPaw pressed against her sister, absolutely delighted to have her back.
VioletStar smiled back and whispered something to JaggedStrike before walking over to the newcomer, her deputy and several warriors right behind her.

((Okay, like the title says, Bright and Dark. We pretty much passed the happy bright part. Time for Violet to break the news that medicine cat apprentice position is taken by StarPaw. Mwuahaha...))
She pressed her muzzle back into her sister's shoulder, purring.
SpottedKit then looked up confidently at VioletStar. "Aunt VioletStar, I am sorry I was gone. And I am ready to take up my rightful place in the clan by being TarpenLeaf's apprentice," the tortoiseshell meowed clearly and loudly, her voice ringing through the clearing-like place that was the camp.
"You need to be up-dated, Spotted. First, ShadedPaw is an apprentice, so not ShadedKit. Second, that position is already taken," the sharp voice of an apprentice she-cat said. It wasn't very friendly, and it was obvious she was mocking the to-be-apprentice.
SpottedKit blinked. "Is that true?"

ShadedPaw glared at the apprentice her blue eyes seething.... she'd teach that apprentice later.... soon.
VioletStar smiled awkwardly and nodded "We're very sorry Spottedkit... but you've been gone for almost 5 moons, and TarpenLeaf asked for StarPaw to become his apprentice since you disappeared" She meowed calmly, but still sympathetic to the apprentice.

She blinked again, as if to wake up from a bad dream. "But... He promised... He said that he'll pick me... And..."
The tears were coming back, but she didn't hide them anymore. She flattened her wolf-like ears to her head, and dug her claws in the ground.

ShadedPaw pressed against her sister again before turning on her leader "Surely you can do SOMETHING she still has somewhat of a right to the position!" She hissed
VioletStar shook her head clearly somewhat torn between her great neices and the fact that she'd already made StarPaw, TarpenLeaf's apprentice. She turned to ShadedPaw again "Go tell TarpenLeaf to meet me in my den" She instructed before turning back to Spottedkit. "We'll talk about this is in my den" she meowed flicking her tail for JaggedStrike to follow them into her den.
ShadedPaw hesitated slightly before dashing off toward TarpenLeaf's den. "TarpenLeaf! VioletStar needs to talk to you in her den!" She called loudly

Those sad tears were actually tears of anger, and it was starting to become clear by the way SpottedKit glared around at the NatureClanners. A growl came from her sore throat, but she was beyound noticing the pain. Yes, she had a gentle personnality and everything, but she still has dark roots. "The apple never falls far from the tree, remember that," the tortoiseshell hissed. "StarPaw and TarpenLeaf better watch their backs, too. And so do you, VioletStar, GrudgePaw, and all the others gathered here."
With that she turned for the exit, stalking away.

VioletStar watched the kit very surprised, and looked at her senior warriors and deputy for support.
ShadedPaw came running back "WAIT! Where're you going?" she called bounding quickly toward her departing sister.

SpottedKit seemed disappointed. "You don't know? I'm going to go say 'hi' to Daddy," she meowed, trying to sound calm for the sake of her sister, but her voice came out sharper than she wanted it to. She would of glared at herself if it was possible, so she glared down at her paws as she took long strides through the forest. She looked so much like EmberGlow had when she an apprentice and BerryThorn came back, instantly having a crush on RavenSight, the only tom EmberGlow wanted to be with, or when WeedPelt wouldn't pay any attention to her. But she also looked like VampireBat, stalking in his anger to an unseen prey. "I always wondered how cat blood tasted like, you know."

ShadedPaw narrowed her eyes in confusion..... who was this cat.... it wasn't her sister that she remembered. "Are you coming back?" She asked... at this point only SpottedKit and ShadedPaw could hear this conversation. ShadedPaw was soooo confused.... what if Spottedkit didn't come back... should she leave with her?

She shrugged as she padded out of the forest, which looked quite weird. "I dunno, Shade. But it's very possible I stay, keep that in mind. If I decide to stay, and NatureClan is family to you, then I suggest you to stay with them," she meowed softly, all her kindness back in her voice, as if nothing has happened. Though her eyes were still filled with hurt, she smiled at her sister. SpottedKit noticed the way ShadedPaw didn't seem to recognize her. "Hey, I'm still me. I just got... angry. Taken by surprise. Let's say I'm just really tired and being rejected from destiny itself isn't something to be very happy about. Being medicine cat was my destiny, and not StarPaw's." She frowned. "But then again, he told me I had three different paths."

"He?" She asked quizically coming to stand beside her sister again. "Anyways I'll come visit dad with you, and I'm still planning on leaveing.... right after training is over" ShadedPaw meowed quietly sympathetic to her sister.

She nodded. "Well, that's cool. And he is the AbyssClanner I met. I think he is our great-grandfather, VampireBat's father. Though I'm not sure... He has blood-red eyes and a pitch-black pelt," SpottedKit mewed, smiling to herself as she used the present time to speak of the dead.
She stopped walking when the grass turned to sand. They were entering the In-Between.
The tortoiseshell looked sadly at her sister. "You have no idea how grateful I am to have a sister like you," she murmured as she looked back at the forest, which somehow seemed darker. "I had so many hopes and dreams... All crushed. Poof. Gone." Her claws dug in the ground again, and her amber eyes narrowed. "Remember when I said the apple never falls far from tree? Unless it rolls down a hill, like MothPelt and CandleFlame. Well, how about we both become assassins? Follow in VampireBat's great paw-steps? Wouldn't that be fun?"
She looked at her sister hopefully, smiling at the idea.

"Just out of curiousity what does mom think of that? and since when do you speak to AbyssClan? That's MY job" She chuckled softly.

She shook her head. "Some voices are more powerful than others, you just have to learn how to listen and you can hear both, or ignore them. This cat spoke to me, I did not choose the connection like you did with Pepper. Mom is always trying to speak to you, but it's like you're blocking her off," SpottedKit said, and if ShadedKit was carefully listening, she could probably hear a hidden edge of jealousy in her voice. "She isn't happy, that's for sure. Though she believes her CometFall is still somewhere in Daddy, so she ain't giving up on hoping he will knock some sense into us," she answered her other question. "What about Pepper?"

"Hmmmm.... She does know that dad is with another she-cat now right? An assassin from one of the most powerful rogue families" ShadedPaw asked. She could probably hear for herself, but she really had no intention of letting her mother into her head. "Pepper's cool. She helps me alot you know. Tells me if I'm about to do something stupid, which I will say barely ever happens. Good instructions. She's really happy now that both you and I are going to be assassins" ShadedPaw nodded proudly with a slight smile.

That she nodded, wistful. "If only Mom was like that. And yeah, she knows, and she's kind of happy about it because Freedom is the perfect kind of cat for Dad, the kind that will make him happy. Ugh."
She tilted, as if listening hard. "I really wonder how the kits will turn out. A mix of Death's and Vampire's family... Kits of Vampire and Death. Think of how many powerful cats they'll have by their side! A huge powerful family... Our half-siblings."
Sudden anger flickered in her eyes. Why couldn't those kits be her and her sister? Yes, her mother's side of the family includes EmberGlow and HeatherStar, two powerful cats, but Death'sBreath killed EmberGlow just too easily... But if it wasn't for her death, SilverWing and her kits wouldn't be.

I can walk without a sound, blend in shadows, hear more clearly and quickly kill even adult cats by sneaking up on them! He says names has power," she meowed, looking at the sky with wonder. "How about you?"

ShadedPaw's reaction was clearly impressed, but she kept her face composed. After all she could do that stuff too... after a little bit of training from some awesome assassins that Pepper led her to. "I can do that too. Pepper led me to a group of awesome assassins that trained me. but shush dad doesn't exactly know that, and it was quite brutal, but it gets the job done!" She meowed with a wink.
